Island Camping Trip!

Last weekend was the annual Ningbo Shane English School camping trip.
It included the entire full time staff of almost 60 in an amazing setting.

The place was the big southern island of Zhoushan 舟山,六横岛.
We camped on one of the best beaches in the Ningbo area called, 龙头跳, Dragon Head Jump.
The close to pristine beach is public and accessible for a 20rmb fee.
The people who maintain it also have a house a 2 minute walk from the beach where you can rent a room and/or eat fabulous, fresh home cooked meals.

The total travel time is about 2 hours depending on traffic and what time you hit the ferry.
We charted two buses from downtown Ningbo, boarded the ferry, then another 20 minutes drive gets you to the beach. So lush and tropical, just remember the bug spray!

After tent set up, chasing the blowing away tents down the beach, it’s BBQ time!

The freshest shrimp, still moving as they are skewered and thrown on the grill, pork chops, mystery meat, and cheap Chinese beer, doesn’t get much better than this…

Top it off with a killer sunset!

The kind of zen moments I cherish.

Now, time to party, dance, and play games!
Let’s bury Joe in the sand, such a low key guy, even as a hermaphrodite!

Then the morning after…5am wake up to “Hello mosquitos!”
So I get up and watch the sunrise and check out the morning scene…

After realizing I should still be asleep, I found solace in the shady park and curled into a hammock.
Amazingly less mosquitos than inside our sealed tent, who knew!

A great morning of lounging and more swimming, with a little studying and philosophy thrown in, aaaahhhh…oh and a good mud fight!
Another lunch of Fresh seafood, home cooked dishes and group shots!

Then it’s back on the ferry and more shots!

Thank you to Tracey for a very interesting Chinese history discussion on the way home.
You are an amazing teacher!

Goodbye beach, I’ll be seeing you again soon.

  1. What FUN!! I have heard that a dryer sheet (such as Bounce) put in your pocket (or under your cap) will keep mosquitos away…
