Xitang is an ancient, protected town in northern Zhejiang province, a three hour journey north of Ningbo.
It is definitely worth an overnight trip to feel some old world China without too much tourist commercialism. At night you can walk the streets with classic red lanterns lighting your way.
We arrived the night of Jan the 1st, wandered the streets for snacks, stinky tofu being one of specialties, found some yummy dinner, chatted the night away and enjoyed being out of the city.

The pictures speak for themselves…

The morning and day were spent eating street snacks, wandering the streets, meeting the locals, eating more, seeing some ancient sites, and getting swindled by some eager monks with new year blessings.

We stayed down the most narrow alley in the whole town, which made it an interesting walk home the night before, but great for pics the next day.

We will be back again, next time when we can sit by the river in the warm sunshine.
