Beijing Streets and Sights

January 28, 2012, we arrived to frigid, blue skies in Beijing. Blue skies in Beijing!?! Oh yeah!

We were very excited to show our friend Tosha that it could be this good…

…so began a tour of the overview and street scene of Beijing.

Definitely recommend the Dragon Courtyard Hostel. It’s well located in the east of the center in an old hutong neighborhood with modern bath rooms, and large, clean beds. They have a great lounge area, the chicken pizza is awesome, and in the warm weather, a roof top to hang out on.

At night, you have to make it out to the Olympic Park and take in the amazing new construction.

During the Chinese spring festival, special structures are built to honor the festivities.

The Temple Fairs are where to feel the pulse of the new year. Across the city they take over the expansive Beijing parks with street food, quirky stuff, and a carnival atmosphere. You won’t find this same kind of celebration in the south. So to seek tradition, and crowds, head to the northern temple fairs.

Beijing is full of culture and has much to offer in every corner. I recommend starting off around the Drum Tower and Bei Hai lakes area to get a great overview of the northern capital.
