Calla Lilies at Yangmingshan, beautiful Taipei

Yangmingshan 陽明山 in northern Taipei has a multitude of topography to offer a short days trip from the city center.

This time of year is when all the Calla Lilies are in full bloom and flower festivals are in abundance. We arrived to bamboo lake 竹子湖 on an overcast Saturday after the big festival just finished. It was the perfect time as the crowds were less than previous weeks and the cloudy mist added to the romance of the area.

The thing to do is go pick your own bouquet of lilies for nt$10 each (about us$0.33 per flower), hike around, do a photo shoot, and have a leisurely lunch or afternoon tea. We headed along up the road from bus stop 小8, 小9 and followed the road up to see if we could get a view from above. No view was to be had, but there were some great places to eat tucked into the foliage.

We were right about in the center of this map.
On our way back down we saw a photo shoot, lots of bamboo, and hydrangeas blooming. For a rest, we wandered back to a fenced in farm that is a cafe and restaurant. Here was our first view:

This Japanese style restaurant is where I’d like to eat next time!

Direct small buses run from either Shipai MRT or Beitou MRT, they leave infrequently so make sure to check the schedule ahead. Enjoy!

Later on…back in the city. We finished off the day with burgers and a ‘Courtney’ Brand Dr. Pepper!
